<p>Psychological triggers are the only tool you can use to influence your customer&#8217;s behavior. Read on and find out why.</p>

<p>Your success comes down to one point! You have to understand how people react, and why. </p>

<p><strong>And then use this knowledge to make them react the way you want them to!</strong></p>

<div class="kb-row-layout-wrap kb-row-layout-id358_12329b-cd alignnone has-theme-palette6-background-color kt-row-has-bg wp-block-kadence-rowlayout"><div class="kt-row-column-wrap kt-has-1-columns kt-row-layout-equal kt-tab-layout-inherit kt-mobile-layout-row kt-row-valign-top">

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column358_dbb628-94"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col">
<p class="has-theme-palette-9-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-50f34f5cdcd5e9f41cf3098ae89e8c70">Done with the endless sales theory and ready to actually&nbsp;<em>close more deals</em>? If you want to skip the ‘WHY’ and get straight to the ‘HOW’?</p>

<p class="has-theme-palette-9-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6d7583f28a5127950f749185509799ae">Make&nbsp;<a href="https://coffeewithacloser.com/seduction/#cb44c34797">“Coffee with a Closer”</a>&nbsp;your next move. </div></div>

</div></div>

<p>Human <strong>behavior</strong> is complicated – Human <strong>motivation</strong> is simple</p>

<p>The human subconsciousness evaluates the world whether it&#8217;s dangerous or friendly. Once it comes to a conclusion, it motivates the whole system, the body, the brain, the whole system, to act accordingly.</p>

<p>If it concludes a situation is dangerous, it generates fear. If it concludes its friendly, it generates happiness and joy.</p>

<p>Read the last sentence again, would you? </p>

<p><strong>Your subconscious mind GENERATES the feelings AFTER it has decided that you are safe or in danger. </strong></p>

<p>This decision happens on a completely subconscious level and it only takes a split-second to come to this initial conclusion. </p>

<p>You have no conscious control over it whatsoever!</p>

<div class="kb-row-layout-wrap kb-row-layout-id358_8c3f8e-b4 alignnone wp-block-kadence-rowlayout"><div class="kt-row-column-wrap kt-has-1-columns kt-row-layout-equal kt-tab-layout-inherit kt-mobile-layout-row kt-row-valign-top">

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column358_2e9dac-65"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col">
<div class="wp-block-kadence-spacer aligncenter kt-block-spacer-358_95bd8f-b3"><div class="kt-block-spacer kt-block-spacer-halign-center"><hr class="kt-divider"/></div></div>

<figure class="wp-block-pullquote has-theme-palette-6-color has-theme-palette-9-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-925c1c2f66736e7b4472136ba3384f99" style="border-style:none;border-width:0px;padding-top:0;padding-bottom:0"><blockquote><p><strong>Your customer&#8217;s subconscious mind is the ultimate decision-maker.</strong></p><cite>Tom Fox</cite></blockquote></figure>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-spacer aligncenter kt-block-spacer-358_654263-5f"><div class="kt-block-spacer kt-block-spacer-halign-center"><hr class="kt-divider"/></div></div>
</div></div>

</div></div>

<p>Same goes for relationships with people. </p>

<p>If your subconscious decides that the person you have just met is trustworthy, cool and interested in your wellbeing, it will do everything to reconfirm this first assessment. </p>

<p>From all the different signals you are getting from your interaction with this person, your subconscious will pick the signals that are proving its first assessment to be true.</p>

<p>If it thinks that this is a dangerous, dishonest and sketchy person, it will pick only the signals which confirm this.</p>

<div class="kb-row-layout-wrap kb-row-layout-id358_61ad58-18 alignnone wp-block-kadence-rowlayout"><div class="kt-row-column-wrap kt-has-3-columns kt-row-layout-center-half kt-tab-layout-inherit kt-mobile-layout-row kt-row-valign-top">

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column358_7668e3-8a"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col"></div></div>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column358_b3c113-d8"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col"><div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large"><a href="#cb44c34797"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTAcopy-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter-683x1024.webp" alt="" class="wp-image-1459" srcset="https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTAcopy-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter-683x1024.webp 683w, https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTAcopy-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter-200x300.webp 200w, https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTAcopy-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter-768x1152.webp 768w, https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTAcopy-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter.webp 1000w" sizes="(max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></a></figure></div></div></div>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column358_c133d2-e0"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col"></div></div>

</div></div>

<p>Your prospect is wired exactly the same way. </p>

<p>He is doing this with you as well. </p>

<p>He is putting you in one of these categories and there you stay! </p>

<p>If your first impression you are leaving is only slightly off, you will be in the “Sleazy-Salesman-Category” and you can’t do anything to get out of there. </p>

<p>At least not in the time you have to close your deal.</p>

<p><a href="https://coffeewithacloser.com/how-to-create-perfect-first-impression/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">That’s why the first impression is so important and this is why I wrote a dedicated blog post about how to make the perfect first impression.&nbsp;</a></p>

<p>Well, now we know this, we can start using this knowledge deliberately to our advantage.</p>

<p>How does the subconscious decide what is dangerous or friendly? </p>

<p>These principles are the same for every human being. These criteria are inherited through tens of thousands of years of evolution because they allow us to survive, to relate to other people, and ultimately, to MAKE more people.</p>

<p>Because this is fact, you can stop giving a shit about the conscious brain and how decisions are made consciously. </p>

<p>You need to be able to address the reptilian brain! </p>

<p>The brain where fear lives alongside sex. The brain which decides about flight or fight. The brain which made us survive and evolve for 100’000 years.</p>

<div class="kb-row-layout-wrap kb-row-layout-id358_fff897-08 alignnone has-theme-palette6-background-color kt-row-has-bg wp-block-kadence-rowlayout"><div class="kt-row-column-wrap kt-has-1-columns kt-row-layout-equal kt-tab-layout-inherit kt-mobile-layout-row kt-row-valign-top">

</div></div>

<p>It is the primal instincts you want to identify and leverage to your advantage.</p>

<p>You have learned already, that the people around you are the deciding factor for your success or failure.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Be it customers, saying yes or no</li>

<li>Possible business partners, fighting for you, or for your competition.</li>

<li>Bosses, giving you the resources you need, or not.</li>
</ul>

<p>That is exactly why you have to understand how humans behave and make them behave the way you want them to.</p>

<p>There is a plethora of behaviors which have been programmed into us over 100’000 years of evolution. </p>

<p>There is an instinctive program running in each of us. Our job as salesmen is to identify and understand this program and to use it to our advantage.</p>

<p>Read on if you want to learn how you play your customer like a fiddle.</p>

<p>Alright then, you magnificent manipulators, let&#8217;s talk about <strong>emotional triggers</strong>. </p>

<p>Now, before you get all worried and start picturing some shady hypnotist swinging a pocket watch, let me assure you – this is about ethical persuasion, not mind control. </p>

<p>(Though, let&#8217;s be honest, a little mind control wouldn&#8217;t hurt in those tough negotiations, am I right?)</p>

<div class="kb-row-layout-wrap kb-row-layout-id1469_db4b06-5e alignnone wp-block-kadence-rowlayout"><div class="kt-row-column-wrap kt-has-3-columns kt-row-layout-center-half kt-tab-layout-inherit kt-mobile-layout-row kt-row-valign-top">

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column1469_6367fa-4a"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col"></div></div>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column1469_ab4f66-3e"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col"><div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large"><a href="#cb44c34797"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTA-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter-683x1024.webp" alt="" class="wp-image-1458" srcset="https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTA-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter-683x1024.webp 683w, https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTA-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter-200x300.webp 200w, https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTA-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter-768x1152.webp 768w, https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTA-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter.webp 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></a></figure></div></div></div>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column1469_419a32-0d"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col"></div></div>

</div></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>We&#8217;re All Emotional Creatures (Even If We Pretend Not to Be)</strong></h2>

<p>Here&#8217;s the thing: humans are emotional beings. </p>

<p>We like to think we make decisions based on logic and reason, but deep down, it&#8217;s our emotions that call the shots. </p>

<p>Our reptilian brain – that ancient, primal part of our noggin – is constantly scanning for threats, seeking pleasure, and making snap judgments.</p>

<p>And that&#8217;s where emotional triggers come in. </p>

<p>They&#8217;re like secret codes that unlock specific emotions in your prospect&#8217;s brain. </p>

<p>By knowing which buttons to push, you can create a sense of trust, excitement, urgency, or whatever the hell else you need to close the deal.</p>

<div class="kb-row-layout-wrap kb-row-layout-id433_9379c5-e4 alignnone has-theme-palette6-background-color kt-row-has-bg wp-block-kadence-rowlayout"><div class="kt-row-column-wrap kt-has-1-columns kt-row-layout-equal kt-tab-layout-inherit kt-mobile-layout-row kt-row-valign-top">

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column433_1ace49-ac"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col">

</div></div>

</div></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>10 Triggers to Unleash Your Inner Sales Sorcerer</strong></h2>

<p>Now, there are a gazillion emotional triggers out there, but I&#8217;m gonna break down 10 of the most powerful ones that&#8217;ll have your prospects eating out of your hand (figuratively, of course).</p>

<p><strong>1. Belonging: The &#8220;We&#8217;re All in This Together&#8221; Trigger</strong></p>

<p>Humans are social creatures. </p>

<p>We crave connection, community, and the feeling of belonging. </p>

<p>Think about those die-hard sports fans, decked out in their team colors, chanting in unison. </p>

<p>That&#8217;s the power of belonging in action.</p>

<p>Here&#8217;s how to tap into this trigger:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Create a VIP customer club:</strong> Make your customers feel like they&#8217;re part of an exclusive group.</li>

<li><strong>Host events or webinars:</strong> Bring your customers together to connect and learn.</li>

<li><strong>Use inclusive language:</strong> Use &#8220;we&#8221; and &#8220;us&#8221; to create a sense of shared identity.</li>
</ul>

<p><a href="https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kuwj5mPwZD5tDkY2VJyvBf5gTo8Jpha5MMOj8H-zrqk/edit?tab=t.8amk0ktmvpmd#heading=h.yyht7vaf7koe">For a more in depth view, check this out</a></p>

<p><strong>2. Fear: The &#8220;Boo!&#8221; Trigger</strong></p>

<p>Fear is a powerful motivator. </p>

<p>It can make us do crazy things, like buy that extended warranty we don&#8217;t really need or hoard toilet paper during a pandemic.</p>

<p>Here&#8217;s how to use fear (ethically, of course):</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Highlight potential risks:</strong> &#8220;What if you miss out on this opportunity?&#8221;</li>

<li><strong>Create a sense of urgency:</strong> &#8220;This offer ends soon!&#8221;</li>

<li><strong>Use scarcity tactics:</strong> &#8220;Only 3 spots left!&#8221;</li>
</ul>

<div class="kb-row-layout-wrap kb-row-layout-id433_f25d74-99 alignnone wp-block-kadence-rowlayout"><div class="kt-row-column-wrap kt-has-1-columns kt-row-layout-equal kt-tab-layout-inherit kt-mobile-layout-row kt-row-valign-top">

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column433_a7e829-9e"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col">
<div class="wp-block-kadence-spacer aligncenter kt-block-spacer-433_0d49b0-93"><div class="kt-block-spacer kt-block-spacer-halign-center"><hr class="kt-divider"/></div></div>

<figure class="wp-block-pullquote has-theme-palette-6-color has-theme-palette-9-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-cc5551c403cbf9a0f50ac52aee71a188" style="border-style:none;border-width:0px;padding-top:0;padding-bottom:0"><blockquote><p><strong>You need to push the right buttons to open your customer&#8217;s wallet</strong>. </p><cite>Tom Fox</cite></blockquote></figure>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-spacer aligncenter kt-block-spacer-433_44226b-71"><div class="kt-block-spacer kt-block-spacer-halign-center"><hr class="kt-divider"/></div></div>
</div></div>

</div></div>

<p><strong>3. Guilt: The &#8220;You Should Be Ashamed of Yourself&#8221; Trigger</strong></p>

<p>Guilt can be a sneaky little bugger. </p>

<p>It preys on our conscience and makes us want to make amends. </p>

<p>Think of those sad puppy dog eyes in those animal shelter commercials.</p>

<p>Here&#8217;s how to use guilt (with a gentle touch):</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Appeal to their sense of responsibility:</strong> &#8220;Don&#8217;t you want the best for your family?&#8221;</li>

<li><strong>Highlight the consequences of inaction:</strong> &#8220;Imagine the regret you&#8217;ll feel if you don&#8217;t act now.&#8221;</li>
</ul>

<p><strong>4. Trust: The &#8220;I Got Your Back&#8221; Trigger</strong></p>

<p>Trust is the foundation of any strong relationship, especially in sales. </p>

<p>People buy from people they trust.</p>

<p>Here&#8217;s how to build trust:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Be transparent and honest:</strong> Don&#8217;t overpromise or exaggerate.</li>

<li><strong>Provide social proof:</strong> Showcase testimonials and case studies.</li>

<li><strong>Offer guarantees:</strong> Reduce their risk with money-back guarantees or warranties.</li>
</ul>

<p><strong>5. Leadership: The &#8220;Follow Me&#8221; Trigger</strong></p>

<p>People are naturally drawn to strong leaders. </p>

<p>They want someone to guide them, inspire them, and show them the way.</p>

<p>Here&#8217;s how to position yourself as a leader:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Share your expertise:</strong> Demonstrate your knowledge and experience.</li>

<li><strong>Offer valuable insights:</strong> Provide unique perspectives and solutions.</li>

<li><strong>Be confident and decisive:</strong> Show that you know what you&#8217;re talking about.</li>
</ul>

<p><strong>6. Values: The &#8220;This is What I Stand For&#8221; Trigger</strong></p>

<p>Values are deeply held beliefs that guide our decisions and actions. </p>

<p>When you align your product or service with your prospect&#8217;s values, you create a powerful connection.</p>

<p>Here&#8217;s how to tap into values:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Understand your audience:</strong> Research their values and beliefs.</li>

<li><strong>Highlight shared values:</strong> Emphasize how your offering aligns with their values.</li>

<p>The principle of reciprocity is deeply ingrained in human nature. </p>

<p>When you give something to someone, they feel obligated to give something back.</p>

<p>Here&#8217;s how to use reciprocity:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Offer free value:</strong> Provide helpful content, free consultations, or small gifts.</li>

<li><strong>Go the extra mile:</strong> Do something unexpected and helpful for your prospects.</li>

<li></li>
</ul>

<p><strong>8. Scarcity: The &#8220;Limited Edition&#8221; Trigger</strong></p>

<p>Scarcity creates a sense of urgency and desire. </p>

<p>When people think something is in limited supply, they want it more.</p>

<p>Here&#8217;s how to use scarcity:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Limited-time offers:</strong> Create deadlines for special deals or promotions.</li>

<li><strong>Limited quantities:</strong> Emphasize that your product or service is in high demand.</li>
</ul>

<p><strong>9. Authority: The &#8220;Expert Approved&#8221; Trigger</strong></p>

<p>People are more likely to trust and follow those they perceive as authorities or experts.</p>

<p>Here&#8217;s how to establish authority:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Showcase your credentials:</strong> Highlight your experience, qualifications, and achievements.</li>

<li><strong>Share your knowledge:</strong> Create valuable content that demonstrates your expertise.</li>

<li><strong>Get endorsements:</strong> Seek testimonials from respected figures in your industry.</li>
</ul>

<p><strong>10. Commitment and Consistency: The &#8220;I Said I Would&#8221; Trigger</strong></p>

<p>People have a strong desire to be consistent with their previous commitments and actions.</p>

<p>Here&#8217;s how to use commitment and consistency:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Get small commitments:</strong> Start with small requests or agreements.</li>

<li><strong>Build on those commitments:</strong> Gradually increase the level of commitment.</li>
</ul>

<p>Alright, you smooth-talking superstars, let&#8217;s talk about non-verbal <strong>communication</strong>. </p>

<p>Now, before you start picturing me giving a lecture on public speaking (though, hey, I&#8217;ve been known to rock a microphone or two), let me clarify – this isn&#8217;t just about the words you say. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s about the entire package: your body language, your tone of voice, your facial expressions, and even the subtle cues you send without even realizing it.</p>

<div class="kb-row-layout-wrap kb-row-layout-id466_15f9b1-ff alignnone has-theme-palette6-background-color kt-row-has-bg wp-block-kadence-rowlayout"><div class="kt-row-column-wrap kt-has-1-columns kt-row-layout-equal kt-tab-layout-inherit kt-mobile-layout-row kt-row-valign-top">

</div></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Communication: It&#8217;s a Two-Way Street (and a Dance Floor)</strong></h2>

<p>Think of communication like a dance. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s a two-way exchange, a delicate balance between speaking and listening, between expressing and understanding. </p>

<p>And just like any good dance, it requires rhythm, timing, and a whole lot of finesse.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Verbal Communication: The 5% Rule</strong></h2>

<p>Now, here&#8217;s a mind-blowing fact: only 5% of your verbal communication is actually processed by your prospect&#8217;s brain. </p>

<p>That&#8217;s right, just 5%! </p>

<p>The rest is filtered out, ignored, or simply forgotten.</p>

<p>Why? Because our brains are lazy. They&#8217;re constantly looking for shortcuts, ways to conserve energy and avoid mental overload. </p>

<p>So, when you&#8217;re rambling on about your product&#8217;s features and benefits, their brain is probably thinking about what&#8217;s for dinner or that funny cat video they saw on YouTube.</p>

</div></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Non-Verbal Communication: The Silent Superstar</strong></h2>

<p>So, if words aren&#8217;t enough, what else is there? </p>

<p>Well, that&#8217;s where non-verbal communication comes in. </p>

<p>Your body language, your tone of voice, your facial expressions – these are the silent superstars of communication. </p>

<p>They convey emotions, build rapport, and create a lasting impression.</p>

<p>Think about it:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>A warm smile can instantly disarm a skeptical prospect.</li>

<li>A confident posture can convey authority and expertise.</li>

<li>A genuine expression of empathy can build trust and connection.</li>
</ul>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Power of Non-Verbal Cues</strong></h2>

<p>Studies have shown that non-verbal communication can be even more powerful than verbal communication. </p>

<p>For example, one study found that people are more likely to believe a speaker&#8217;s message when it&#8217;s accompanied by congruent non-verbal cues, such as eye contact, nodding, and open gestures.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Practical Examples:</strong></h2>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Use mirroring:</strong> Subtly mimic your prospect&#8217;s body language and tone of voice to build rapport.</li>
</ul>

<p></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Maintain eye contact:</strong> Show that you&#8217;re engaged and interested in what they have to say.</li>
</ul>

<p></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Use open gestures:</strong> Avoid crossing your arms or legs, which can convey defensiveness.</li>
</ul>

<p></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Vary your tone of voice:</strong> Keep your voice interesting and engaging by varying your pitch and pace.</li>
</ul>

</div></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Mastering the Art of non-verbal</strong> <strong>Communication</strong></h2>

<p>To become a truly effective communicator, you need to master both verbal and non-verbal communication. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s like being a conductor, orchestrating a symphony of words, gestures, and expressions that captivate your audience and lead them to your desired outcome.</p>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column466_f39d67-24"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col">

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Personal Anecdote Time!</strong></h2>

<p>I once gave a presentation to a group of executives. </p>

<p>I had prepared meticulously, rehearsed my pitch, and knew my material inside and out. </p>

<p>But during the presentation, I noticed that the audience seemed disengaged. </p>

<p>They were fidgeting, checking their phones, and avoiding eye contact. </p>

<p>I realized that my non-verbal communication was sabotaging my message. </p>

<p>I was standing stiffly, speaking in a monotone voice, and failing to connect with my audience on an emotional level.</p>

<p>I took a deep breath, adjusted my posture, and started speaking with more passion and enthusiasm. </p>

<p>I made eye contact with each person in the room, used hand gestures to emphasize my points, and injected humor into my presentation. </p>

<p>The transformation was immediate. </p>

<p>The audience became engaged, leaned in, and listened intently. </p>

<p>I ended up closing the deal, and I learned a valuable lesson about the power of non-verbal communication.</p>

<p>Now, before you start picturing me judging your fashion choices (though, hey, a good suit never hurts), let me tell you – this isn&#8217;t just about looking good. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s about creating an instant impact, setting the stage for success, and making sure your prospects remember you for all the right reasons.</p>

<div class="kb-row-layout-wrap kb-row-layout-id470_185e21-fe alignnone has-theme-palette6-background-color kt-row-has-bg wp-block-kadence-rowlayout"><div class="kt-row-column-wrap kt-has-1-columns kt-row-layout-equal kt-tab-layout-inherit kt-mobile-layout-row kt-row-valign-top">

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Reptilian Brain: Your First Impression Judge and Jury</strong></h2>

<p>You see, our brains are wired to make snap judgments. </p>

<p>That ancient, primal part of our brain – the reptilian brain – is constantly scanning for threats, assessing safety, and deciding whether to fight or flee (or in our case, whether to buy or say &#8220;bye&#8221;).</p>

<p>And guess what? That reptilian brain is judging you within seconds of meeting you. It&#8217;s like you&#8217;re being assigned a mental drawer: &#8220;trustworthy,&#8221; &#8220;sketchy,&#8221; &#8220;expert,&#8221; &#8220;amateur.&#8221; </p>

<p>And once you&#8217;re in that drawer, it&#8217;s damn hard to get out.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Long Shadow of First Impressions</strong></h2>

<p>First impressions are like tattoos – they&#8217;re permanent (or at least really hard to remove). </p>

<p>If you show up late to your first meeting, even if you&#8217;re on time for the next ten, that initial tardiness will linger in their minds like a bad smell.</p>

</div></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Primacy Effect: Controlling the Narrative</strong></h2>

<p>The first bit of information someone receives about you shapes their entire perception of you. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s called the <strong>primacy effect</strong>. </p>

<p>So, if you can control that first impression, you&#8217;re already halfway to winning them over.</p>

<p>But here&#8217;s the catch: sometimes, you don&#8217;t get to control that first impression. </p>

<p>Maybe you have an assistant who schedules your meetings or a colleague who introduces you. </p>

<p>In those cases, you need to make sure they&#8217;re setting the stage for your grand entrance.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Personal Anecdote Time!</strong></h2>

<p>I used to have an assistant who would schedule my meetings. </p>

<p>At first, she&#8217;d just say, &#8220;Tom&#8217;s available to meet next week.&#8221; </p>

<p>But then I realized that wasn&#8217;t creating the right impression. </p>

<p>So, I coached her to say something like, &#8220;Tom&#8217;s schedule is packed, but I might be able to squeeze you in for a brief meeting next week. He&#8217;s in high demand, so you&#8217;re lucky to get some of his time.&#8221;</p>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column470_12380c-34"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col">

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Creating Scarcity and Value</strong></h2>

<p>Remember that scarcity principle we talked about? </p>

<p>Well, it applies to your time too. </p>

<p>The more scarce you appear, the more valuable you become. </p>

<p>So, don&#8217;t just accept the first meeting time your prospect suggests. Tell them you&#8217;re booked solid and ask for alternative times. </p>

<p>This creates the impression that you&#8217;re in high demand and makes them feel even more fortunate to have your attention.</p>

<p>Our brain works on chemistry. Hormones, amino acids, transporting agents and so on are responsible for everything that happens in that concealed skull of yours. </p>

<p>All the pictures, noises, feelings and emotions are all artificially generated by different electrical, chemical and electromagnetic signals.</p>

<p>Taking this as a starting-point, we recognize that if we are able to mess around with our customers&#8217; brain chemistry, we are able to control everything. </p>

<p>His mood, his perception, his behavior.</p>

<p>All we have to know to make him behave the way we want him to is giving his brain the right impulse to increase or decrease the level of certain chemicals in his brain.</p>

<div class="kb-row-layout-wrap kb-row-layout-id449_d25ba3-c6 alignnone has-theme-palette6-background-color kt-row-has-bg wp-block-kadence-rowlayout"><div class="kt-row-column-wrap kt-has-1-columns kt-row-layout-equal kt-tab-layout-inherit kt-mobile-layout-row kt-row-valign-top">

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column449_d40a1e-de"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col">
<p class="has-theme-palette-9-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-8972367a5e147c2643ead5d124528cb4">Done with the endless sales theory and ready to actually <em>close more deals</em>? If you want to skip the &#8216;WHY&#8217; and get straight to the &#8216;HOW&#8217;?</p>

<p class="has-theme-palette-9-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-82a3107ff4381735441e9b766d88c324">Make <a href="#cb44c34797">&#8220;Coffee with a Closer&#8221;</a> your next move. Get weekly, battle-tested action steps delivered directly to your inbox – no fluff, just results.</p>
</div></div>

</div></div>

<p>Sounds manipulative? </p>

<p>Well, that’s because it is. And not only that. It&#8217;s super manipulative because like this we completely bypass his logical decision-making and play with him like we would play with a puppet on a string.</p>

<p>Let’s have a look at the single chemicals and what they are doing inside your head.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Meet Your Happy Chemicals</strong></h2>

<p>Dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, and endorphin. </p>

<p>Each of these chemicals is released in response to different emotional states. </p>

<p>As a sales guy seeking to create any emotion or feeling or mood in our prospects, what better way to understand how to do that than specifically understanding when these four chemicals are released into our brain. </p>

<p>So let&#8217;s talk about each of these chemicals in turn.</p>

<div class="kb-row-layout-wrap kb-row-layout-id1469_db4b06-5e alignnone wp-block-kadence-rowlayout"><div class="kt-row-column-wrap kt-has-3-columns kt-row-layout-center-half kt-tab-layout-inherit kt-mobile-layout-row kt-row-valign-top">

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column1469_6367fa-4a"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col"></div></div>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column1469_ab4f66-3e"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col"><div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large"><a href="#cb44c34797"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTA-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter-683x1024.webp" alt="" class="wp-image-1458" srcset="https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTA-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter-683x1024.webp 683w, https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTA-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter-200x300.webp 200w, https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTA-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter-768x1152.webp 768w, https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTA-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter.webp 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></a></figure></div></div></div>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column1469_419a32-0d"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col"></div></div>

</div></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Dopamine</strong>&nbsp;</h3>

<p>Dopamine is released in the brain when we expect a reward. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s that exciting feeling we get when we are about to be rewarded. </p>

<p>For example, when you achieve a long-sought goal. Or even when you simply take a step toward a goal. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s also released when you see another person take a step toward a goal. </p>

<p>Ultimately it&#8217;s all about taking a step toward a goal and expecting to be rewarded for it. </p>

<p>Learning to ride a bike, playing an instrument, finishing a crossword puzzle, signing the deal and getting a promotion all release dopamine in our brain.&nbsp;</p>

<div class="kb-row-layout-wrap kb-row-layout-id358_61ad58-18 alignnone wp-block-kadence-rowlayout"><div class="kt-row-column-wrap kt-has-3-columns kt-row-layout-center-half kt-tab-layout-inherit kt-mobile-layout-row kt-row-valign-top">

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column358_7668e3-8a"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col"></div></div>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column358_b3c113-d8"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col"><div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large"><a href="#cb44c34797"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTAcopy-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter-683x1024.webp" alt="" class="wp-image-1459" srcset="https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTAcopy-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter-683x1024.webp 683w, https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTAcopy-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter-200x300.webp 200w, https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTAcopy-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter-768x1152.webp 768w, https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTAcopy-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter.webp 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></a></figure></div></div></div>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column358_c133d2-e0"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col"></div></div>

</div></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Serotonin</strong>&nbsp;</h3>

<p>Serotonin flows in the brain when we feel significant or important. </p>

<p>When you feel confident and take pride in your work, serotonin is flowing. </p>

<p>Similarly, when we feel bigger or stronger than another, we release serotonin. </p>

<p>And ultimately, when we receive social recognition from our peers and communities, we release serotonin.&nbsp;</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Oxytocin&nbsp;</strong></h3>

<p>Oxytocin is released when we feel trust. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s that good feeling when you are with someone you trust. </p>

<p>Social trust feels good because social alliances promote survival. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s similarly released through the physical touch of a loved one. As such, oxytocin is often called the love hormone.&nbsp;</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Endorphin</strong>&nbsp;</h3>

<p>Endorphins are released when you are feeling physical pain to give you a brief moment of euphoria as a survival mechanism. </p>

<p>Real physical distress triggers endorphins. Though laughing and crying also releases small bursts of endorphins.&nbsp;</p>

<div class="kb-row-layout-wrap kb-row-layout-id449_4577f6-65 alignnone wp-block-kadence-rowlayout"><div class="kt-row-column-wrap kt-has-1-columns kt-row-layout-equal kt-tab-layout-inherit kt-mobile-layout-row kt-row-valign-top">

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column449_1867a1-61"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col">
<div class="wp-block-kadence-spacer aligncenter kt-block-spacer-449_66b889-05"><div class="kt-block-spacer kt-block-spacer-halign-center"><hr class="kt-divider"/></div></div>

<figure class="wp-block-pullquote has-theme-palette-6-color has-theme-palette-9-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-cd7fd78cb751db00d4e20e61af4bee93" style="border-style:none;border-width:0px;padding-top:0;padding-bottom:0"><blockquote><p>&#8220;<strong>The brain is a chemical playground. Are you the game master?&#8221;</strong></p><cite>Tom Fox</cite></blockquote></figure>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-spacer aligncenter kt-block-spacer-449_3e1aff-3e"><div class="kt-block-spacer kt-block-spacer-halign-center"><hr class="kt-divider"/></div></div>
</div></div>

</div></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Our Personalized Brain Chemistry </h2>

<p>All of us have these four chemicals periodically flowing through our brain in response to our environment. </p>

<p>But the reality is each of us develop very different brain chemistry, affecting how these four chemicals manifest in each of us.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This is because before we are eight years old and during puberty, a substance called myelin is prevalent throughout our brain. </p>

<p>It coats our neurons and facilitates the creation of the neural network throughout our brain. </p>

<p>The experiences we have in our youth shape us and quickly create new neural pathways.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But when we get older, myelin reduces and it becomes much harder to modify the brain chemistry to create new pathways. </p>

<p>So it&#8217;s important to remember how each of us is wired differently based on our early life experiences, varying the effect and frequency of release of each of these happy chemicals in our brain.</p>

<p>We can use these effects to generate every picture, feeling or emotion we want in our customer’s brain. </p>

<p>If we know how.</p>

<p>Now, before you start picturing me in a stiff suit, giving a boring lecture on resume writing (though, hey, I clean up pretty well), let me clarify – this isn&#8217;t about following outdated rules or fitting into a corporate mold. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s about showcasing your unique value, grabbing their attention, and making them desperate to meet you.</p>

<p>Alright, you interview aces, let&#8217;s talk about turning the interview into your own personal stage. </p>

<p>Now, before you start picturing me tap-dancing on a conference table, belting out show tunes (though, hey, I&#8217;ve been known to break into song on occasion), let me clarify – this isn&#8217;t about putting on a performance or being fake. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s about showcasing your authentic self, highlighting your unique value, and making the interviewer realize they&#8217;d be fools not to hire you.</p>

<div class="kb-row-layout-wrap kb-row-layout-id593_edac6a-cd alignnone has-theme-palette6-background-color kt-row-has-bg wp-block-kadence-rowlayout"><div class="kt-row-column-wrap kt-has-1-columns kt-row-layout-equal kt-tab-layout-inherit kt-mobile-layout-row kt-row-valign-top">

</div></div>

</div></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Interview: It&#8217;s Not Just a Q&amp;A Session (It&#8217;s a Persuasion Dance)</strong></h2>

<p>The interview isn&#8217;t just about answering questions; it&#8217;s about selling yourself. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s your chance to demonstrate your skills, your personality, and your passion for the role. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s your opportunity to shine and make a lasting impression.</p>

<p>But here&#8217;s the thing: most candidates approach interviews with a sense of desperation, like they&#8217;re begging for the job. </p>

<p>They answer questions passively, hoping they&#8217;ll say the right thing and avoid making any mistakes.</p>

<p>But you&#8217;re not like most candidates. </p>

<p>You&#8217;re a sales pro, a master of persuasion, a confident and charismatic individual who knows how to command a room (or at least a Zoom call).</p>

<div class="kb-row-layout-wrap kb-row-layout-id1469_db4b06-5e alignnone wp-block-kadence-rowlayout"><div class="kt-row-column-wrap kt-has-3-columns kt-row-layout-center-half kt-tab-layout-inherit kt-mobile-layout-row kt-row-valign-top">

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column1469_419a32-0d"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col"></div></div>

</div></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Turning the Tables: It&#8217;s Time to Interview Them</strong></h2>

<p>Instead of just answering their questions, turn the tables and interview them. </p>

<p>Ask insightful questions about the company, the role, and the challenges they&#8217;re facing. </p>

<p>This shows that you&#8217;re not just interested in getting a job; you&#8217;re interested in making a real contribution to their success.</p>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column593_3f4bf3-12"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col">
<div class="wp-block-kadence-spacer aligncenter kt-block-spacer-593_22eb07-0d"><div class="kt-block-spacer kt-block-spacer-halign-center"><hr class="kt-divider"/></div></div>

</div></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Research is Your Secret Weapon</strong></h2>

<p>Before the interview, do your homework. </p>

<p>Research the company, the industry, and the people you&#8217;ll be meeting with. </p>

<p>This will help you ask intelligent questions, demonstrate your knowledge, and impress the interviewer with your preparation.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Here are a few things to research:</strong></h3>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>The company&#8217;s website:</strong> Learn about their mission, values, products, and services.</li>
</ul>

<p></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Industry news and trends:</strong> Stay up-to-date on the latest developments in the industry.</li>
</ul>

<p></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>The interviewer&#8217;s LinkedIn profile:</strong> Get a sense of their background, experience, and interests.</li>
</ul>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The &#8220;I Can Solve Your Problems&#8221; Approach</strong></h2>

<p>Most candidates focus on highlighting their skills and accomplishments. </p>

<p>But you can take it a step further by identifying the company&#8217;s challenges and presenting yourself as the solution.</p>

<p>For example, if the company is struggling with declining sales, you might say, &#8220;I&#8217;ve noticed that your sales have been declining in recent quarters. In my previous role, I implemented a new sales strategy that resulted in a 20% increase in revenue. </p>

<p>I&#8217;m confident that I can bring that same success to your company.&#8221;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Turning the Interview into a Conversation</strong></h2>

<p>The best interviews feel like conversations, not interrogations. </p>

<p>Engage with the interviewer, ask thoughtful questions, and share your insights and experiences. </p>

<p>Alright, you interview mavericks, let&#8217;s talk about showcasing your abilities in a job interview. </p>

<p>Now, before you start picturing me juggling chainsaws and fire torches (though, hey, it might make you memorable), let me clarify – this isn&#8217;t about showing off or exaggerating your skills. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s about strategically highlighting your strengths, demonstrating your experience, and making the interviewer believe you&#8217;re the perfect fit for the role.</p>

<div class="kb-row-layout-wrap kb-row-layout-id599_bab8af-aa alignnone has-theme-palette6-background-color kt-row-has-bg wp-block-kadence-rowlayout"><div class="kt-row-column-wrap kt-has-1-columns kt-row-layout-equal kt-tab-layout-inherit kt-mobile-layout-row kt-row-valign-top">

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column599_278e88-cf"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col">

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Job Description: Your Interview Cheat Sheet</strong></h2>

<p>Think of the job description as your interview cheat sheet. </p>

<p>It outlines the key skills, experience, and qualifications the company is looking for. </p>

<p>Your job is to demonstrate that you possess those qualities and can apply them to the role.</p>

<p>But here&#8217;s the thing: simply listing your skills and experience on your resume isn&#8217;t enough. </p>

<p>You need to bring those qualifications to life, make them tangible, and show the interviewer how you&#8217;ve used them to achieve success in the past.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Power of Storytelling (It&#8217;s Not Just for Bedtime)</strong></h2>

<p>Storytelling is a powerful tool for persuasion. </p>

<p>It captures attention, creates emotional connections, and makes your message more memorable. </p>

<p>And in a job interview, storytelling can be your secret weapon for showcasing your abilities and standing out from the crowd.</p>

<div class="kb-row-layout-wrap kb-row-layout-id1469_db4b06-5e alignnone wp-block-kadence-rowlayout"><div class="kt-row-column-wrap kt-has-3-columns kt-row-layout-center-half kt-tab-layout-inherit kt-mobile-layout-row kt-row-valign-top">

</div></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>How to Craft Compelling Interview Stories</strong></h2>

<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Dissect the Job Description:</strong> Take the job description and break it down into individual skills, tasks, and responsibilities. Each of these becomes a potential story topic.<br></li>

<li><strong>Identify Your Success Stories:</strong> For each skill or responsibility, think of a specific example from your past where you successfully demonstrated that quality. This could be a project you completed, a challenge you overcame, or a goal you achieved.<br></li>

<li><strong>Craft Concise and Compelling Stories:</strong> Keep your stories short, focused, and relevant to the job. Highlight the challenge you faced, the actions you took, and the positive results you achieved.<br></li>
</ol>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column599_924253-8f"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col">
<div class="wp-block-kadence-spacer aligncenter kt-block-spacer-599_9eb056-29"><div class="kt-block-spacer kt-block-spacer-halign-center"><hr class="kt-divider"/></div></div>

</div></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Example:</strong></h2>

<p>Let&#8217;s say the job description requires &#8220;strong problem-solving skills.&#8221; </p>

<p>You could tell a story about a time you faced a challenging problem at work, how you analyzed the situation, developed a solution, and achieved a positive outcome.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Quantify Your Results (Numbers Speak Louder Than Words)</strong></h2>

<p>Whenever possible, quantify your results with numbers, data, and specific examples.</p>

<p>This makes your accomplishments more tangible and easier for the interviewer to understand.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Example:</strong></h3>

<p>Instead of saying, &#8220;I improved customer satisfaction,&#8221; say, &#8220;I implemented a new customer service strategy that resulted in a 15% increase in customer satisfaction scores.&#8221;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Practice Your Delivery (Don&#8217;t Wing It)</strong></h2>

<p>Alright, you smooth-talking socialites, let&#8217;s talk about transitioning from small talk to the sales pitch. </p>

<p>Now, before you start picturing me doing a dramatic costume change in a phone booth (though, hey, a little theatricality never hurts), let me clarify – this isn&#8217;t about abruptly switching gears and scaring off your prospect. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s about creating a smooth, natural flow that keeps them engaged and receptive to your message.</p>

<div class="kb-row-layout-wrap kb-row-layout-id630_d7b261-c1 alignnone has-theme-palette6-background-color kt-row-has-bg wp-block-kadence-rowlayout"><div class="kt-row-column-wrap kt-has-1-columns kt-row-layout-equal kt-tab-layout-inherit kt-mobile-layout-row kt-row-valign-top">

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column630_3d40e8-ef"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col">

</div></div>

</div></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Art of the Transition: It&#8217;s Like a Delicate Dance</strong></h2>

<p>Think of the transition from small talk to pitch like a delicate dance. </p>

<p>You need to find the right rhythm, the right timing, and the right moves to lead your partner (your prospect) gracefully across the dance floor (the sales conversation).</p>

<div class="kb-row-layout-wrap kb-row-layout-id1469_db4b06-5e alignnone wp-block-kadence-rowlayout"><div class="kt-row-column-wrap kt-has-3-columns kt-row-layout-center-half kt-tab-layout-inherit kt-mobile-layout-row kt-row-valign-top">

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column1469_6367fa-4a"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col"></div></div>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column1469_ab4f66-3e"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col"><div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large"><a href="#cb44c34797"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTA-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter-683x1024.webp" alt="" class="wp-image-1458" srcset="https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTA-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter-683x1024.webp 683w, https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTA-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter-200x300.webp 200w, https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTA-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter-768x1152.webp 768w, https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTA-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter.webp 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></a></figure></div></div></div>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column1469_419a32-0d"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col"></div></div>

</div></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Setting the Stage: Creating the Right Atmosphere</strong></h2>

<p>The environment you create for your sales interaction plays a crucial role in how your prospect perceives you and your message. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s like setting the mood for a romantic dinner – you want to create an atmosphere that&#8217;s comfortable, inviting, and conducive to connection.</p>

<p>Now, I&#8217;m not suggesting you dim the lights and scatter rose petals around your office (though, hey, if it works for you&#8230;). But you do need to consider the following:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Professionalism:</strong> Your surroundings should reflect your professionalism and expertise. This doesn&#8217;t mean you need a corner office with a mahogany desk, but a clean, organized workspace can go a long way.</li>
</ul>

<p></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Comfort:</strong> Make sure your prospect feels comfortable and at ease. Offer them a beverage, ensure the temperature is comfortable, and minimize distractions.</li>
</ul>

<p></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Authority:</strong> Subtly convey your expertise and authority through your surroundings and your demeanor. This could include displaying relevant certifications, awards, or testimonials.</li>
</ul>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column630_610360-16"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col">
<div class="wp-block-kadence-spacer aligncenter kt-block-spacer-630_cd0ccb-d9"><div class="kt-block-spacer kt-block-spacer-halign-center"><hr class="kt-divider"/></div></div>

<figure class="wp-block-pullquote has-theme-palette-6-color has-theme-palette-9-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-8eeba07e9ae19aa60b4347b68331f33b" style="border-style:none;border-width:0px;padding-top:0;padding-bottom:0"><blockquote><p><strong>&#8220;The transition is your sales tango. Find the right rhythm, lead your prospect gracefully, and close the deal with finesse.&#8221;</strong></p><cite>Tom Fox</cite></blockquote></figure>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-spacer aligncenter kt-block-spacer-630_6995e9-31"><div class="kt-block-spacer kt-block-spacer-halign-center"><hr class="kt-divider"/></div></div>
</div></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Creating Interest: It&#8217;s Not About You, It&#8217;s About Them</strong></h2>

<p>Remember, the key to a successful sales conversation is making your prospect feel like they&#8217;re the center of attention. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s not about you and your product; it&#8217;s about them and their needs.</p>

<p>Here are a few ways to create interest and make them eager to hear what you have to say:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Ask Engaging Questions:</strong> Show genuine curiosity about their business, their challenges, and their goals.</li>
</ul>

<p></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Listen Actively:</strong> Pay attention to what they say, both verbally and nonverbally. Reflect back their thoughts and feelings to show that you&#8217;re truly listening.</li>
</ul>

<p></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Offer Valuable Insights:</strong> Share your expertise and offer solutions to their problems. Make them see you as a trusted advisor, not just a salesperson.</li>
</ul>

<p></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Create a Sense of Urgency:</strong> Subtly highlight the consequences of inaction or the benefits of acting now.</li>
</ul>

<p>Alright, you smooth operators of the sales world, let&#8217;s talk about transitioning to pitch mode. </p>

<p>Now, before you start picturing me hitting a giant &#8220;pitch&#8221; button with flashing lights and sirens (though, hey, a little drama never hurts), let me clarify – this isn&#8217;t about abruptly shifting gears and launching into a hard sell. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s about smoothly and seamlessly guiding your prospect from casual conversation to a focused presentation of your product or service.</p>

<div class="kb-row-layout-wrap kb-row-layout-id639_089e23-22 alignnone has-theme-palette6-background-color kt-row-has-bg wp-block-kadence-rowlayout"><div class="kt-row-column-wrap kt-has-1-columns kt-row-layout-equal kt-tab-layout-inherit kt-mobile-layout-row kt-row-valign-top">

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column639_3789e6-c1"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col">

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The &#8220;Permission to Proceed&#8221; Principle</strong></h2>

<p>Think of it like asking someone for a dance. </p>

<p>You wouldn&#8217;t just grab their hand and start waltzing without their consent, would you? (Well, maybe some of you would, but that&#8217;s a different blog post&#8230;)</p>

<p>Similarly, in sales, it&#8217;s crucial to get your prospect&#8217;s permission before launching into your pitch. </p>

<p>This shows respect for their time, demonstrates your professionalism, and makes them more receptive to your message.</p>

<div class="kb-row-layout-wrap kb-row-layout-id1469_db4b06-5e alignnone wp-block-kadence-rowlayout"><div class="kt-row-column-wrap kt-has-3-columns kt-row-layout-center-half kt-tab-layout-inherit kt-mobile-layout-row kt-row-valign-top">

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column1469_419a32-0d"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col"></div></div>

</div></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Two-Fold Benefit of Asking for Permission</strong></h2>

<p>Asking for permission to pitch has two main benefits:</p>

<p><strong>Further Qualification:</strong> If they&#8217;re not interested in hearing your pitch, they&#8217;ll let you know, saving you valuable time and effort.</p>

<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li></li>
</ol>

<p>And</p>

<p><strong>Smooth Transition:</strong> By explicitly asking for permission, you create a clear shift in the conversation, signaling that you&#8217;re about to move into a more formal presentation of your offering.</p>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column639_0204c4-0b"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col">
<div class="wp-block-kadence-spacer aligncenter kt-block-spacer-639_998d25-4a"><div class="kt-block-spacer kt-block-spacer-halign-center"><hr class="kt-divider"/></div></div>

</div></div>

<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li></li>
</ol>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Art of the Ask: Four Approaches</strong></h2>

<p>Here are four different approaches to asking for permission to pitch, each with its own unique flavor:</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>1. The Direct Approach</strong></h3>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>&#8220;I know we&#8217;re just casually talking, but from what I hear, I think I might be able to help you. Would you be open to exploring how?&#8221;</strong></li>
</ul>

<p>This approach is straightforward and to the point. It shows that you&#8217;re confident in your ability to help and that you value their time.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>2. The Buddy-Buddy Approach</strong></h3>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>&#8220;Hey [Name], you&#8217;ve told me about your challenges with [problem]. I&#8217;m thinking I might have a solution that could really help you. Want to hear more?&#8221;</strong></li>
</ul>

<p>This approach creates a sense of camaraderie and makes them feel like you&#8217;re on their team.</p>

<div class="kb-row-layout-wrap kb-row-layout-id358_61ad58-18 alignnone wp-block-kadence-rowlayout"><div class="kt-row-column-wrap kt-has-3-columns kt-row-layout-center-half kt-tab-layout-inherit kt-mobile-layout-row kt-row-valign-top">

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column358_7668e3-8a"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col"></div></div>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column358_b3c113-d8"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col"><div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large"><a href="#cb44c34797"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTAcopy-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter-683x1024.webp" alt="" class="wp-image-1459" srcset="https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTAcopy-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter-683x1024.webp 683w, https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTAcopy-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter-200x300.webp 200w, https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTAcopy-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter-768x1152.webp 768w, https://coffeewithacloser.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/OptinsBlogCTAcopy-ezgif.com-jpg-to-webp-converter.webp 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></a></figure></div></div></div>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column358_c133d2-e0"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col"></div></div>

</div></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>3. The Politician Approach</strong></h3>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>&#8220;Look, I know things are tough right now, and nothing seems to be going your way. But I have something that could change all that. Would you be open to hearing about a solution that could make a real difference?&#8221;</strong></li>
</ul>

<p>This approach appeals to their emotions and creates a sense of hope and possibility.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>4. The &#8220;We&#8217;re in This Together&#8221; Approach</strong></h3>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>&#8220;I&#8217;ve faced similar challenges in the past, and I know how frustrating it can be. But I found a solution that worked wonders for me, and I think it could help you too. Would you be interested in learning more?&#8221;</strong></li>
</ul>

<p>This approach builds rapport by showing that you understand their struggles and that you&#8217;ve been in their shoes.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Transition: It&#8217;s the Key to Unlocking the Sale</strong></h2>

<p>It&#8217;s the bridge that connects the initial conversation to the sales presentation, and it can make all the difference in closing the deal.</p>

<p>So, go out there and practice your transition techniques. </p>
